Role: Home Checker

Dog buddying

The kennels unit at Freshfields is home to many dogs who have been mistreated and unsocialised. These dog need more time, patience and understanding than some others, before their true personality shines through. They usually spend a longer period at the rescue than most, waiting for that perfect home to come along. While they are waiting we want to offer them the best life possible, helping to prepare them for their new life. This could mean trips to the beach, long walks in the country, and perhaps afternoons or day visits away from the rescue. Even an hour of fuss on the exercise field or on the sofa would bring them a huge amount of pleasure! Could you become a buddy to one of our special dogs?

SHORT AND LONG TERM COMMITMENT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ROLE.

Once staff are sure they have found the right family a home check is always carried out. This is the last check to be made before the animals wonderful new life can be started.

Home checks involve meeting the family at there home, checking the security of the garden and general area, and discussing the planned adoption. Any problems or issues would be discussed with the relevant staff back at the rescue.

Kennels driver

The kennels unit wants to help as many dogs as it possible can. We are sometimes in the frustrating position where we are not able to help a dog because we don't have sufficient staff free to transport that dog to the rescue or from a home to another rescue. Some journeys may involve a long drive of an hour or two, others may be in the local area. Sometimes we need help just getting a local dog to a veterinary practice.

We directly save lives by helping dogs in this way.
