Please meet Chester! What can we say about this beautiful boy. Well this 7-year-old mastiff cross is the brains around the rescue, an extremely intelligent lad. He is very keen on engagement activities and loves to please. He picks up new commands and training very quickly. He has extremely strong bonds with members of our kennels team and is always the most excited to see people first thing in the morning. Chester has always been an extremely inquisitive boy and does not miss a trick, if something has changed around the rescue or in his exercise areas he’s always the first to notice. He loves his walks and walks extremely well on the lead although he can pull on the odd occasion when he becomes overstimulated by something new. He is a big boy, weighing 40kg + therefore he would need a strong and capable owner. Chester loves to play and would spend countless hours chasing a ball around if he was able to.

Chester is loved so much here but we believe there is somebody out there with the right home for him. Chester struggles with sharing spaces that he lives in and would therefore most likely need a home with his own room and access to a secure outdoor area. This means he could build healthy relationships with his new owners but not need to share living spaces. Chester loves meeting new people but this needs to be done slowly and in a certain way so that he doesn’t become overwhelmed. When Chester does become overwhelmed he reverts to overly excited puppy behaviour  however this can be intimidating to some people due to his size. Chester enjoys affection and strokes but this is on his terms with people that he feels comfortable with and therefore handling is something that we would provide continued support with. Chester is not keen on other animals and would need to be the only animal in the home. We believe that Chester could live with one or two people in the home but more than that could be become overwhelming for him. Finally Chester can be scared by loud noises and bad weather and this would be something any potential new owens would need to know about and discuss with our team.

Some background on Chester – Chester originally came into our care in November 2017 aged just 4 months old, he quickly found a new home but was returned to us at 8 months old as he was proving to be too big and boisterous for the family.
Chester spent 2 months in kennels before he was adopted again, where he stayed with that family for 2 years but was sadly returned to us in May 2020. He has been with us since then.
