Meet Poppy
This beautiful girl came into our care as her owner passed away. Due to this we don’t know an a lot about her history. She did live with the neighbours owner for a few months so we have a little bit of info how she has been in their home.
The owner who passed away didn’t have any family so Poppy has come from a very quiet household, where it was just her & the owner. She was feed cat food & human food (she is now happily eating normal dog food with no issues).
When her original owner went into hospital the neighbour took her in & she has been with her for 3 months, sadly the owner passed away & the neighbour cannot commit to Poppy long-term. Whilst with the neighbour, she has lived with another dog (11 year old Shih Tzu) without any problems. Poppy is now crate trained as she has struggled being let on her own, so would prefer a home where the owner are not away for too long – however she has been managing approx. 6 hours but she does cry/howl.
Poppy can be a little timid around new people, barking when they enter the house etc but she doesn’t take to log to come around.
Medical issues / Additional costs
When Poppy initially came into our care we thought she was in season, however we have since discovered she has bladder stones. We have a date to get her in & have these removed, once these are removed they will then be sent off for testing but she could potentially need to be put on a prescription diet for the rest of her life – potential new owners need to be aware of this added cost as prescription diets are a little more expensive than the average food.
Potential new adopters will also need to factor in the additional costs of regular grooming, with having a curly coat these can easily become knotted & will require regular clipping – usually every 6 – 8 weeks.
If you would like to be considered to offer Poppy a home, you can fill in an application or email the kennels directly kennels@freshfields.org.uk
