Strikingly beautiful Xanthe (pronounced Zanthy) was brought to us as a stray who was never claimed. She is such an unusual girl with the most stunning deep golden eyes! She truly is wonderful, a loving girl who is always happy and has a real zest for life! You can't help but smile when you meet Xanthe, she is simply bonkers!
Xanthe can be shy when she meets new people but as soon as she lets her guard down she can be a little giddy and over excitable at times, 'zoomies' being one of her favourite past-times! Due to this (along with the lack of previous background history) Xanthe will need a strict adult only home, free from visiting children and without any children planned for the future. This is not because Xanthe is aggressive (she is far from it!) but she could easily knock over a small child.
We believe the reason that Xanthe is still with us is because she lacks social skills around other dogs on walks. She can become very distressed when she sees other dogs and will bark/spin/lunge. This can become quite challenging and it is important that Xanthe is only walked by a confident, experienced handler. We have worked hard with Xanthe to try and help her become less stressed around other dogs, she loves food so this has been a great tool for training. She will now tolerate wearing a muzzle and has quickly picked up sit, stay and paw. We have found that if a dog does not react to her she behaves much better and is easily distracted with the help of treats. She also recovers from these episodes of stress much more quickly than when she first arrived with us.
Xanthe has so much potential, she is a bright girl who desperately needs a patient person who can continue her training and help her to become less anxious around other dogs.
Sadly we do not know how Xanthe will be in a home environment as she has never been given this opportunity since arriving with us. Therefore we are ideally looking for a home with someone around for most of the day. You must be prepared to make several trips to and from the rescue in order to form a bond with Xanthe before adoption. This will then progress into a slow introduction into the home so please do bare your location in mind should you with to inquire about her.
If you have the right home Xanthe needs please do not overlook this smashing girl, we can guarantee she will bring so much fun and happiness to your life!
