Little Ralphy & Ruffles were abandoned in a box at a local collage with a note saying ‘we know you will look after them’. Unfortunately they could not keep them as they already had a large group of females in their care & so they came to Freshfields. It was clear just by looking at them that they had a sever skin condition, Ruffles was bald all over his back from constantly scratching himself! A sample was checked under the microscope & we identified the issue of mite. The boys received several months of skin treatment including medicated baths & injection. They are now looking amazing with their shiny new coats & are mite free!!
The boys are now looking for their perfect new family to love & spoil them. We do ask that they are the only guinea pigs in the house, as the presence of any others can cause them to fight with each other. They are both cheeky little chaps who make a right ratchet when its getting close to veg time or when they want their breakfast. They will make a wonderful addition to their new family.
If you think that Ralphy & Ruffles could be the perfect guinea pigs for your family, please get in touch at wildlife@freshfields.org.uk with photos of your set up.
We ask that they have a large, fully secure & enclosed pen, measuring at least 4ft by 6ft, the bottom, if on grass, must be meshed, but if on concrete, will not. They will also need a heated area for the winter as guineas do not do well in the colder weather. A thermometer in the pen would be required to keep an eye on the temperature which cannot go below 11 degrees. If you are considering Ralphy & Ruffles as house guinea, all wiring will need to be safely hidden away from nibbling teeth and an exercise area must be accessible at all times.
